About FLIP NC

Based in Durham, FLIP NC is an all-volunteer, grassroots organization formed over beers back in 2017 by friends frustrated by a North Carolina political landscape that is not representative of the people. We use targeted, direct voter outreach to left-leaning voters to elect progressive candidates in North Carolina.

We make voter outreach fun and easy, and we love to socialize after! All of our events are designed with first-time volunteers in mind, and we provide all the information and support you need to get started.

In 2018, we knocked 20,000 doors and sent 250,000 text messages to left-leaning voters in competitive legislative districts, helping to break the supermajorities in both chambers of the NC General Assembly (NCGA). In 2020, we scaled up, making 400,000 calls to left-leaning voters in competitive legislative districts and sending 1.4 million text messages to left-leaning voters statewide, turning out thousands of additional voters for Democrats.

FLIP NC was on hiatus for 2022 but returned in 2024 with a focus on the courts – our only path to ending gerrymandering in North Carolina. Through canvassing and lit drop, we reached voters at 56,000 doors with information about our state court races. And we sent text messages to more than a million left-leaning voters with their local information about how and where to vote.

For 2026, we’ll continue to knock doors, drop lit, and text voting information to left-leaning voters statewide.

As always, our mission is turning out left-leaning voters and making sure they know to vote the full ballot. While our focus this year is on critical judicial elections, our voter outreach strategy will help turn out voters for Democrats up and down the ballot.

FLIP NC runs direct voter outreach, supports grassroots partners, and provides election analysis to help drive progressive strategy and targeting across the state.

We must stop the extreme right-wing takeover of our courts and protect the rights of North Carolinians.
