Meet Emily Bunch Nicholson!

Democratic Candidate for NC House District 1 (Northeastern NC)

Emily Bunch Nicholson is a Workforce Development professional, former educator, mother, and Chowan County native who is running to flip this district blue in November. Her top priorities are to provide affordable, quality healthcare; ensure universal access to education from birth to adulthood; support sustainable economic growth in her region; and protect the environment.

We need agents of change and a generational shift in our elected leaders so that they are truly representative of our citizenry and interests.

Flipping this seat is essential to shifting the balance of power in our state legislature so we can fight for fair voting maps in 2021, finally expand medicaid to reduce health care costs for everyone, increase support for public education, and stop greedy corporations from polluting our air and water.

About NC House District 1

Five counties fall into this NC House district in Northeastern NC: Bertie, Chowan, Perquimans, Tyrell, and Washington. Since voting to re-elect President Obama by 2 points in 2012, this district has voted for Republican candidates at all levels by 6-8 points in each subsequent election. The good news is that the pool of untapped voters in 2018 – registered voters who did not vote – leans Democratic by 30 points! That means Democrats have an excellent chance to win this district if enough left-leaning voters turn out and vote the full ballot.
