Rep. Queen is a sixth-generation citizen of the mountains who served his first term in the state legislature beginning in 2002. He is a farmer, an architect, a businessman, a father, and a husband who is dedicated to strong job growth, high-quality education, and health care access for all.

Throughout his career in the NC Senate and the NC House, Rep. Queen has worked for a stronger economy and a better life for western North Carolinians.

I am proud to fight to get WNC its fair share. I look forward to continuing to serve you with effective leadership grounded in mountain values.

Protecting this seat is essential to shifting the balance of power in our state legislature so we can fight for fair voting maps in 2021, finally expand medicaid to reduce health care costs for everyone, increase support for public education, and stop greedy corporations from polluting our air and water.

About NC House District 119

This competitive district in western North Carolina features the fifth consecutive showdown between Democratic incumbent Joe Sam Queen and his Republican opponent, Mike Clampitt. Queen defeated Clampitt in 2012 and 2014 but lost the seat by 377 votes in 2016. Queen won the seat back in 2018 and is in a good position to hold it in 2020 if enough left-leaning voters turn out and vote the full ballot.
