Phone Bank FAQs - NC House District 20
Democratic Candidate: Adam Ericson
This district, located in New Hanover County, was redrawn by court order after the last election to correct unconstitutional gerrymandering. Gov. Cooper lost the newly constituted district by just 5 points in 2016, and the NC House race was just as close in 2018. The pool of left-leaning voters who stayed home in NC-H20 in 2018 was about 14 points more left-leaning than the folks who came out to the polls, and the great news is that 2020 Democratic primary turnout was up 30% over 2016! This district is flippable if we can get enough left-leaning voters to the polls in November.

Democratic candidate Adam Ericson is public school teacher, coach, and dad who is running for the state legislature to ensure that all North Carolinians have access to affordable health care, safe drinking water, and an honest government that is looking out for them. Visit his website for more information: www.electadamericson.com
WHO IS MY CURRENT REPRESENTATIVE?
The new map draws out the district’s former incumbent and draws in NC House Rep. Ted Davis, Jr. (R), formerly of NC House District 19. Davis has a track record of putting corporations before the people of North Carolina, even letting Chemours, the corporation responsible for the GenX water pollution disaster, off the hook and leaving taxpayers holding the bill for clean up.
WHAT ELSE DO I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS DISTRICT?
NC House District 20 overlaps entirely with NC Senate District 9, which Democrat Harper Peterson flipped from red to blue in 2018 in a very close race that broke the supermajority in the NC Senate, allowing Democrats to uphold Governor Cooper’s veto power and stop the most egregious GOP legislation from passing. NC Senate District 9 was also redrawn and became about 2 points more secure for Democrats under the new map but remains fiercely competitive and will need to be defended in 2020.
