Phone Bank FAQs - NC House District 83
Democratic Candidate: Gail Young
This district, located in the Concord area in Cabarrus County, has been trending blue over each of the past several election cycles. In 2018, Democratic challenger Gail Young came within 6 points of upsetting the Republican incumbent, greatly improving on Gov. Cooper’s 2016 performance in the district. And 2020 Democratic primary turnout increased 32% in Cabarrus County over 2016 – a great sign of Democratic enthusiasm!

WHO IS MY CURRENT REPRESENTATIVE?
Our focus is on increasing name recognition for the Democratic candidate, but voters may ask about her opponent. The Republican incumbent, Larry Pittman, is one of the most extreme right-wing nuts in the NC GOP. From Indy Week: “Since his 2011 appointment to the House, Pittman has tried to outlaw gay marriage by claiming it was its own religion, said that the mass shooting in Parkland occurred because the shooter was a communist wanting to ‘push for gun control so they can more easily take over the country,’ and, most famously, compared Abraham Lincoln to Adolf Hitler.”
