Phone Bank FAQs - NC Senate District 1

Democratic Candidate: Tess Judge

This district encompasses 11 counties in Eastern North Carolina and includes both the Outer Banks and many rural areas, including both largely white and largely black rural areas. While Governor Cooper lost this district by 10 points in 2016, the Democrat who ran for this seat in 2018 lost it by just 6 points. But the great news is that the Democrats running for NC House in the overlapping precincts lost it by just one point. We can flip this district in 2020!

WHO IS THE DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE?

Tess Judge ran an excellent campaign in overlapping NC House District 6 in 2018, outperforming the very right partisan lean of her district by 15 points! She has an excellent shot at flipping this much-more-competitive district in 2020. Judge is a business and community leader who is running to ensure better access to health care, well-resourced public schools, advocacy for workers and small businesses, and equal access to the ballot box for voters. WHO IS MY CURRENT REPRESENTATIVE?

This district is currently represented by Bob Steinburg, a right-wing Republican who opposes gun control, bodily autonomy for women, marriage equality, and anti-discrimination laws and wants to “reduce or eliminate corporate taxes” and “greatly reduce” income taxes for high-income families while also decreasing the safety net for workers.
