With 99.9% of precincts reporting, Attorney General Josh Stein is up by 12,000 votes. Chief Justice Beasley is down by 3,000 votes.

With 99.6% of precincts reporting, Chief Justice Cheri Beasley trails by 2,500 votes. We expect her to overcome that margin as mail-in ballots continue to be counted over the next several days.

Ultimately, we’ve gained 1 seat in the NC Senate and lost 4 seats in the NC House.

One bright spot it in this otherwise depressing stream of losses: Ricky Hurtado has flipped NC House District 63 blue!

Democratic incumbent Sydney Batch has lost her NC House seat (NC-H37). Democratic incumbent Harper Peterson has lost his NC Senate seat (NC-S9).

Ricky Hurtado is now up 1.5 points with 80% of precincts reporting. Dan Besse is down 0.1 points with 52% of precincts reporting.

At this point, it’s clear that we’re not going to break the majority in the NC House, so we’re going to focus on rooting for Ricky Hurtado and Dan Besse to flip their seats. Ricky Hurtado is up 1.4 points with 50% of precincts reporting and Dan Besse is up 1.9 points with 24% of precincts reporting.

After a strong early lead, Ray Russell has now lost NC House District 93.

Democrats are now trailing in all 5 of the NC Senate districts we’ve been watching closely: NC-S1 (Tess Judge), NC-S9 (Harper Peterson) - although this one is super close, NC-S11 (Allen Wellons), NC-S24 (JD Wooten), and NC-S31 (Terri LeGrand).

Adam Ericson is on track to lose NC House District 20 – he’s down 10 points with 81% of precincts reporting. This effectively ends Democrats’ chances to break the majority in the NC House.

Kimberly Hardy and Frances Jackson have lost their races for NC-H43 and NC-H45, respectively, in Cumberland County, a net loss of one seat for Democrats.

Democratic incumbent Joe Sam Queen is now down 7.1 points with 79% of precincts reporting – looks like we’ve lost this district.

Democratic incumbent Joe Sam Queen is currently down 5.4 points with 52% of precincts reporting.

In the NC Senate, Tess Judge in (NC-S1) is still down 6 points with 51% of precincts reporting. Harper Peterson (NC-S9) is up 0.9 points with 19% of precincts reporting. Allen Wellons (NCS-11) is down 1.8 points with 42% of precincts reporting. JD Wooten (NC-S24) is still up 0.8% with 4% of precincts reporting. Terri LeGrand (NC-S31) is down 2% with 6% of precincts reporting. Democrats need to win three of these seats to tie in the NC Senate.

Democrats have also lost longer-shot NC House District 12 (Virginia Cox-Daugherty) with 100% reporting.

As expected, Democrats are on track to lose NC House District 66 – a district that has been trending strongly Republican in recent years.

Democratic incumbents Michael Garrett (NC-S27) and Kirk DeViere (NC-S19) are on track to defend their NC Senate seats.

First flip in the NC House! Brian Farkas has won NC-H9 - he’s up 2.2% with 100% of precincts reporting.

As expected, Democrats will flip 2 NC Senate seats: NC-S18 (Sarah Crawford) and NC-S39 (DeAndrea Salvador).

Looks like Democrats will not win longer-shot NC Senate District 7 (Donna Lake) with 90% of precincts reporting.

Democrats are on the way to holding 3 current NC House districts - NC-H24 (Linda Cooper-Suggs), NC-H47 (Charles Graham), and NC-H93 (Ray Russell).

NC House District 51 (Jason Cain) is the first district on our NC House list with 100% of precincts reporting and this longer-shot district is a loss for Democrats.

A number of counties still haven’t reported any results. In the NC Senate, we’re watching 5 races very closely. Democrats would need to win 3 of these to tie. Tess Judge in (NC-S1) is currently down 6 points but reporting is sporadic. Harper Peterson (NC-S9) is up 1.5 points in the early vote in New Hanover County. Allen Wellons (NCS-11) is down 0.3 points with 30% of precincts reporting. JD Wooten (NC-S24) is up 0.8% with 4% of precincts reporting. Terri LeGrand (NC-S31) is down 1.3% with 2% of precincts reporting.

The early voting results are still filtering in. Not all counties have reported yet. We’ll have an update as soon as all the early votes are in.

10 NC precincts are closing late. The last polls will close at 8:15pm in NC. We expect the first results to come in by around 8:30pm.
