For this phone bank, we'll be calling left-leaning voters in NC-H59, where Democrat Nicole Quick is working to unseat Republican incumbent Jon Hardister.

We’ll talk with voters about the dire need to expand Medicaid, asking them to (1) call their current representative, using the pressure of a newly competitive district to push him to support Medicaid expansion, and (2) talk with their friends and neighbors about the importance of electing Democrat Nicole Quick to flip this critical district in November.

For years, Democrats have been fighting to expand Medicaid in North Carolina, and Republicans have used their majority to block it at every turn, one of the most self-defeating and harmful policies inflicted by the GOP-controlled NCGA (on a list of many!). Medicaid expansion, which would cost the state nothing, would provide health insurance for nearly 500,000 low-income households and create tens of thousands of jobs in the healthcare sector.

Yet under the GOP-control state legislature, under-resourced hospitals have instead been forced to cut staff or even shut down. Under normal circumstances, the NCGA’s refusal to expand Medicaid has proved disastrous for many families. With the rapid spread of COVID-19, Republicans’ failure to expand Medicaid will be catastrophic for North Carolinians.

Given the circumstances, we hold a shred of hope that Republicans can be pushed to do what is right for North Carolina. But given their track record, we fear that they won’t. That means it’s more important than ever that we finally end the GOP’s stranglehold on our state.

We’re making calls into NC-H59 because it is one of the most competitive districts in North Carolina – control of our state legislature could come down to this race! Please join us – the future of our state is in our hands!
