In response to rapidly changing information regarding the COVID-19 crisis, FLIP NC is postponing our next phone bank, scheduled for this Tuesday, March 31. The evolving federal response and changing state-level conditions have implications for how we advocate for the policies we most urgently need to help North Carolinians weather this crisis. To that end, we’re postponing next week’s phone bank until we can fully assess and communicate the immediate actions we need from our legislators.
Ultimately, we need a state legislature that truly has all North Carolinians’ best interests at heart; the COVID-19 crisis makes this more important than ever. FLIP NC was founded because we believe we’ll only get a state legislature that truly works for all North Carolinians by flipping seats blue in November so we can shift the balance of power in Raleigh. Everything we do is built with that in mind. For now, though, our most urgent concern is that our current legislature acts in good faith to protect the most vulnerable North Carolinians during this crisis.
Our phone banks are opportunities to let voters know that they live in one of the critical districts with the power to change our state’s future. They’re also opportunities to mobilize voters and advocate for the policies we urgently need with the legislators who may be newly incentivized to respond to their constituents. Please bear with us as we continue to assess and adapt so we can put our time to best use in supporting our ultimate goal while also working in support of North Carolinians’ most immediate needs in this crisis. Once we understand what specific legislative changes are needed, we will resume voter contact work and advocate for those policies.
