In the words of the very wise Michelle Obama: “Do something!” Here are some effective ways to get involved so that we can toast to a blue North Carolina on election night.
FLIP NC has always focused on filling gaps in voter outreach and information – including early canvassing to connect with voters outside the traditional Get Out The Vote (GOTV) period. With campaign and party GOTV efforts now in full swing, we encourage you to join one of the following efforts.
Canvass with the Democratic Party
Dems are out in full force, fighting for every vote – we love to see it! Mobilize has tons of volunteer opportunities coming up. Or go to your county party website to learn about their upcoming events.
Canvass in Competitive Legislative Districts
If you’re in the greater Triangle area, sign up to canvass with our friends at Neighbors on Call, who focus entirely on voter outreach to support Democrats in competitive state legislative districts in and near the Triangle.
In the greater Charlotte area, join our friends at Indivisible Charlotte to canvass in NC House District 105, where Tricia Cotham is running for reelection. Cotham ran as a Democrat in 2022 and then switched parties, giving the GOP a supermajority and helping to pass extreme right-wing legislation, including abortion restrictions that she had strongly campaigned against just months before.
Or, connect with the Democratic candidate of your choice directly. Here’s our full list of the most competitive NC General Assembly candidates.
Call Voters
The North Carolina Democratic Party is hosting phone banks for our courts every Monday at 6 pm! Sign up here, and help spread the word about our critical court races.
Carolina Federation, Down Home, and Siembra NC have teamed up to phone bank via Zoom every Thursday and Sunday, from 5 to 8 pm.
Fluent in Spanish? Sign up to join select Thursday phone banks and help Siembra talk to Spanish-speaking voters!
Talk to Your People
Harris and Trump are running neck and neck in North Carolina, and we need to win by margins that are impossible to deny. And no matter what happens in the presidential contest, we must win Council of State races like governor and attorney general, key legislative districts, and statewide judicial contests.
One of the most effective ways to turn out voters who might not otherwise vote is direct contact from someone they know. You can make a big difference by talking to your people about:
How and where to vote
The importance of voting the whole ballot
The constitutional amendment (vote AGAINST!)
One way to share all of this information is by sending FLIP NC’s voter guide.
Some handy resources:
NC Voter Lookup Tool – enter a name to view that person’s sample ballot and learn their Nov. 5 polling location
Early Voting Lookup – find early voting locations by county. Remember, early voting runs from Oct. 17 to Nov. 2. Folks who aren’t registered can register AND vote during early voting. On Election Day, you must already be registered to vote to cast a ballot.
